XI Temptation

Temptation is not an enemy, it is a mirror. This card says that everything frightening and uncontrollable lives within us, not outside us. What is repressed and suppressed always finds a way to appear if we refuse to look at it.

This is an invitation to see your shadow, acknowledge it, and stop fearing your own instincts and desires. Only by recognizing them can we choose who governs our life, ourselves or our shadow.

Lilith whispers in the half-dark: “What do you truly want, but are afraid to admit to yourself?” The answer to this question is a step toward freedom.

This card embodies the shadow side of the personality, hidden desires, suppressed instincts, and the impulses we often do not want to admit even to ourselves. Lilith is the energy of temptation, passion, manipulation, denial, and repression, that part of us which can govern us from within if we do not become aware of it.

Her light is no light at all, but darkness, fog, vagueness, what happens behind your back or in the shadows while your eyes are blindfolded. Lilith activates fears, unconscious reactions, destructive desires, and the feeling that something or someone is controlling you. This is a card of inner struggle with temptations, of the danger of falling into the trap of your own illusions or someone else’s manipulation.

But precisely in this shadow lie the keys to karmic tasks and to healing those parts of the personality that need attention, recognition, and inner work.
